Gobustan National Park - Cave Paintings:
Begin your journey by exploring Gobustan National Park, home to an incredible collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings dating back 40,000 years. The Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape is spread over a rocky plateau that rises out of the semi-desert. Here, you’ll discover caves, ancient settlements, and burial sites that reflect human life from the Upper Paleolithic era to the Middle Ages. Covering an area of 537 hectares, Gobustan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a true historical gem.
Tour to Mud Volcanoes:
After visiting the ancient rock art, head over to the famous Mud Volcanoes near Gobustan. Azerbaijan is home to the world’s largest collection of mud volcanoes, with around 350 out of the world’s 800 volcanoes located here. You’ll have the chance to get close to the craters of the volcanoes, watch the cold, grey mud bubble and gurgle, and even climb them. The landscape around the mud volcanoes is often compared to the surface of Mars, adding to the otherworldly atmosphere.
